Blip TV Screw

We used to host many of our videos on Blip.tv. The service allowed us an alternative for episode viewing as well as a means of streaming out shows to iTunes.

A couple months ago we realized we didn’t need to continue paying a monthly fee in order to continue with the service we had grown accustomed to. So, we canceled our subscription while keeping our account going for all those hundreds of videos and audio versions of the show we had uploaded.

A couple weeks ago we received a letter from Blip.tv stating that we didn’t meet their terms of service. Therefore they were going to remove ALL of our previous content from their site.

Over the past year, Blip has been conducting an ongoing review of our content library, removing accounts that don’t meet our Terms of Service. As part of this effort, your account has been flagged for removal on November 7, 2013, and new uploads have been disabled as of today.

I wrote them back asking what the problem was.

Could you please tell me which terms I may be violating?

I’m concerned because all the videos I have linked out there on the internet are now going to disappear. I didn’t see any reason for having my videos removed due to size or plan limitations. All of my content is created by me.

I thank you for whatever response you supply.

And here’s what they said.

Blip requires that all its videos be part of a high quality, episodic, original web series. Please refer to Section 11 of Blip’s Terms of Service for more information about prohibited content:

11. Prohibited Content: Videos that are not part of a high quality, original episodic web series can be removed at Blip’s sole discretion. Examples of content considered inconsistent with Blip’s definition of high quality, original episodic web series can include but are not limited to sermons, speeches, slide shows, webinars, screencasts, gameplay footage, tutorials, walkthroughs, meetings (corporate, community or government), personal (home movies, weddings, parties, vacations, etc.), music videos and content produced for other mediums (television, film, radio). Each episode must consist of original content created by the account holder.

Additionally, the terms of service require that you agree not to “use Blip to host videos which serve primarily to promote or support a business enterprise. This includes, but is not limited to commercials, testimonials, product demonstrations, product or service overviews, etc.”

So then what about all the other shows on your site that do the same thing? There are quite a few episodic shows on Blip.tv that review product, talk current events, etc. They all still exist. Why were we singled out?

We are left with no recourse other then to unfortunately let you all know what happened.
